On the 30th of September in Synchrotron SOLARIS world-class specialists on cryo-electron microscopy gathered to discuss the recent advances in the structural biology field. Cryo-EM users and experts from Europe had an opportunity to meet, discuss and start new scientific collaborations.
The day was divided into 3 sessions – two Single Particle Analysis sessions and one session focused on Data analysis and Cryo-Tomography. The conference started with a great keynote lecture of Prof. Karim-Jean Armache from New York University School of Medicine, USA. The second session started with an excellent talk of Prof. Holger Stark from the Max-Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Germany. The last session featured such experts as Dr. Shotaro Otsuka from Vienna or Dr. Piotr Szwedziak from Warsaw. We also hosted two experts from ThermoFisher Scientific – the main sponsor of the event – who gave more technical talks. The excellent talks of the speakers triggered lively discussions and raised interesting questions. There was an opportunity during a long lunch break for PhD students to ask questions directly to the speakers or to continue the discussion from the conference room.
For all attendees, there was a possibility to see the newly created National Cryo-EM Facility with Titan Krios G3i. We finished the meeting with a socializing event at BARKA Restaurant on Vistula River.
