Last week on Structural Biology Core Facility open seminar we hosted FortéBio Field Application Specialist Dr. Sonja Balk. An interesting lecture titled “FortéBio solution for Versatile and Rapid Biomolecular Kinetics and Quantitation” made our users excited about the new technique.

Our speaker provided an introduction to Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI), the technology which powers FortéBio’s Octet® and BLItz systems. Then she followed with comprehensive characterization across a broad range of applications that are critical for efficient development. Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI) is used to measure binding interactions of small molecules, proteins, antibodies, and even cells, determine specificity, calculate titer, characterize affinity, and more.

After the lecture, we invited all interested users for the live instrument demonstration of Octet® RED96e System, instrument based on the biosensor technology.

FortéBio’s Octet® systems enable real-time, label-free analysis for determination of affinity, kinetics, and concentration.

Octet® RED96e System can be used for large molecule characterization and small molecule and fragment analysis. The system supports one 96-well plate, provides 8-well simultaneous read-out and biosensor re-racking. Enables assays to be performed over a wider temperature range of 15-40C and longer experimental time up to 12 hours with evaporation control. The FortéBio’s Octet® RED96e system directly measures the presence of specific proteins and other molecules in solution with minimal interference from complex matrices. The system has also the possibility to monitor binding events in real time to calculate on rates (ka), off rates (kd), and affinity constants (KD).
